2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Why are there so many different ideas about the same verses in the Bible? Why does one group believe one way and another group believes another way? The very foundation of the idea of denominations is based in the differences of Bible interpretation and every one of these denominations believe their way is the right way. So, a simple question to ask is, does God have all these different explanations for what he has said or is there only one true interpretation? One thing for sure; an all-knowing God would mean what he says and say what he means. A perfect and holy God would not be confusing (1 Corinthians 14:33) and he would not leave it up to man to determine what he has said. That is why spiritual discernment (biblical interpretation) cannot be the destination of man’s natural mind. (1 Corinthians 2:14) We cannot understand God by human reasoning because God is too lofty for man to obtain to his wisdom. (Isaiah 55:9) We are finite, and he is infinite. We are the creature, and he is the Creator. He is all-knowing, and we are limited.
So, who is right? The answer is God is right. When we seek after the opinions of men through denominationalism and other such opinions, rather than the revelation of God, we are seeking a faulty and inferior source. We need God’s wisdom and that comes to us through his revealed will and ways by his Spirit.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
It is interesting to see the arrogance of men attempting to explain biblical truth through some means other than through divine illumination. The greatest study tool that man can use is prayer, seeking God with a humble attitude. When we acknowledge God, we must acknowledge our own limited capabilities. This is what it means when the Bible says, “the just to live by faith”. (Romans 1:17) Our confidence must be in God not in ourselves. We must be reliant upon our Lord.
Let us consider this truth today as we are reminded of the words of Jesus in John 15:5, “…for without me ye can do nothing.”
