Longing for Him
Psalm 107:4-9
They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. [5] Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. [6] Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. [7] And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. [8] Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! [9] For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
A Bengals Super Bowl? Your favorite college team to win a National Championship? Maybe a passed loved ones best dish they made? Perhaps it’s a great steak or famous dessert? It could possibly be a new car? There are many things on this world we may feel like we “long” for. We would just love to have something or see something happen.
In our text we find some that are wandering. We find them hungering and thirsting when they call out unto the Lord. We find at the end of vs 6 that the Lord delivers them from their distresses. Let us focus on vs 9. The Bible tells us that He will satisfy the longing soul. It also says that He will fill the hungering soul with goodness.
Do you long for Him? Do you have a hungering for God? Do you have a greater longing for the things of this world or to see God show up and do something great? I’ve heard this before and heard few more times this week with the passing of the pope. “Practicing Catholic”. I guess that means they just have certain things they do in order to practice their religion. It all becomes ritual to them. Is that what church has become to us? Is it just something you do once or a few times a week? Do you attend longing to feel the presence of God in the services? Do you attend hungering to hear from the Lord?
There are many things of this world that we long for. Do we have that same longing for God in our lives and in our services? Imagine what big things the Lord could do if we showed up longing for Him this Lords day!!
God bless
