Apr. 28 Devotion: Perspective

Perspective

Luke 15:17-24 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! [18] I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, [19] And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. [20] And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. [21] And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. [22] But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: [23] And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it ; and let us eat, and be merry: [24] For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

We all know the story of the prodigal son here in this passage. If you look at verses 18-19 we see the son has began to realize he’d be better off back home. Not worthy enough to be called his son he at least wanted to be one of the hired servants. We know his father sees him afar off and runs to meet him. Notice them in verses 21-22 that the father interrupts his son before he can finish his speech. Before he tells him to make him as a hired servant the father has him clothed, puts a ring on him, orders the fatted calf to be killed so they celebrate the prodigals arrival. The son’s perspective was that he wasn’t worthy of all this. You ever feel unworthy of all God has done for you? It amazes me the long suffering, the grace, and all the blessings that God has given. On top of all that also that He’d place a call on my life to preach His Word! The devil can also get in our mind and point out all we’ve done wrong and tell us how unworthy we are. However!!! To the Father, we are worth it all. We are worth so much that the Father sent His best do give His life on the cross for us! We are worth so much that He saves us from eternal damnation to spend eternity with Him in heaven! We are worth so much to Him that He’ll pour out showers of blessings to us no matter how unworthy we may feel we are. Remember that while we may feel unworthy, to the Father we are worth it all!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
