Apr. 7 Devotion: Always Be Scoffers

Always Be Scoffers

2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

With the events of the past week it once again allowed me the opportunity at work to discuss more about the end times. People discussing the dollar collapsing and other things going on in this world. I talked about the fact that we know the world will turn to one currency, one religion, etc. However, while there were some that believe that’s the case there are others that refuse to believe or see things that way. Some seem to think that they’ve heard it all before and Jesus hasn’t come back yet so they question aloud if it’s all true. We see here in our text we know that those people are always going to be out there. When we come across these people there are a couple ways we can approach it. We can just turn and walk away and just say they’ll never believe. I’d think we’d all hate to have a friend end up in hell and then be able to say we never truly shared the Gospel with them. We also could use an opportunity like that to tell them what the Bible says about the end times and use that as a platform to share the Gospel with them. It comes down to is being willing to stand behind what we believe. Think of Daniel when he went against the decree and still prayed. Look at Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. They weren’t going to bow to a golden image. They were willing to make a stand before the king. Each person involved in these situations knew what was right and had faith that God would be with them and get them through the situation they were facing. Do we have that same faith that when people doubt His Word or doubt the truth that we are willing to stand on Scriptures and point others to Christ? It seems as if too many Christians have reached a point of apathy and just stand idly by because we don’t think anyone will listen or we aren’t going to change minds. We aren’t told to make anyone listen and it’s not up to us to change minds. It is up to us to share the Gospel with others. While there are others that are completely shut off there are plenty that have questions about what is going on. All we can do is point them towards Christ and allow God to do a work in their heart. Now is not the time to give up!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
