Apr. 7 Devotion: Under the Sun

Under the Sun

Ecclesiastes 1:1-3

The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. [2] Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. [3] What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

Over twenty times Solomon uses this phrase. He is driving the point across about things done under the sun and that their all vanity. He says that all the labor of mankind is vanity and that there is nothing new under the sun. He states that there is no benefit to all the works of mankind. We know that there is no eternal value in the material things of this life. Solomon was a man who chased after everything on this earth from wisdom to knowledge. The problem with this is he did all this and forgot the God of heaven. He even went as far as to worship other gods. Of course his life would be empty. That's what that phrase means empty of emptiness. There's a place in everyone's life that's for God, and God alone can fill that place. The Bible says to seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you. The world as a whole is seeking for peace. They will never find it until they have the prince of peace.

God bless
