April 22 Devotion: Have We Forgotten The Message?

Have We Forgotten The Message?

Genesis 13:12-13 [12] Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. [13] But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.

Genesis 18:32-33 [32] And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake. [33] And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

We see a strife that had developed between the herdsmen of Lot and Abram. Abram then tells Lot to choose where he would like to go. We now see in our text verse that Lot pitches his tent towards Sodom which is exceedingly wicked. Fast forward now to chapter 18 and God is going to destroy Sodom. We know Abraham then starts at 50 in asking God to spare Sodom. Abraham gets all the way down to 10 that we see in our text verses before he stops. You’d hoped that at the very least Lot’s family would be found righteous and the city would be spared. However, we know that wasn’t the case. We know in the next chapter fire and brimstone rain down on Sodom and Gomorrah and destroy them. When you look at America now you’d say it’s exceedingly wicked. You have abortion and homosexuality running rampant. You have the alphabet mafia trying to push their wicked values onto everyone. The thing that is wrong man calls right and the thing that is right is called wrong. While we must stand up to those things: How are we standing up to those things? It seems things have reached a point where everything is political. This wickedness isn’t wrong because they are a left or right wing thing. It isn’t wrong just because we don’t agree with it. These things are wrong because the Word of God says it is. We also don’t need people to “see it our way” so to speak. We need to see them get saved. People need Christ! That should be our message. Think of the great commission in Matthew 28. We are instructed to teach and baptize in verse 19. We are then told to teach them to observe all things in verse 20. We need to be Christians before being a conservative. We need to share the Gospel and allow Christ to do a work in their heart. Yes, we must make a stand against the wickedness in this country. That stand isn’t a Democrat or Republican thing. That stand should start with sharing the Gospel and getting the wicked to see their need for Christ. Do you push a Republican or conservative message or are you pushing the message of Christ?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
