Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
I have found throughout my Christian life; this verse has helped to guide me and answer many questions. Agreement with our guide and our companions is vital in our walk in this world. Without agreement there is constant friction, there is pushing and pulling against each other, and there is no peace. The word of God and the Holy Spirit should be our guides, and this must be settled in our hearts if there is to be harmony (agreement) with those that try to walk with us.
Is the word of God settled in your heart? Then follow it. If others are to walk with you, then they must also have the word of God settled in their heart. Of course, it must first be settled what is the word of God. There is an old saying, “things that are different are not the same.” I believe the King James Bible is the settled word of God translated in English. I have that settled in my heart. Are we in agreement? Then that will be a determining factor in our walk of agreement. Are you saved? That too will be a factor in our walk of agreement. Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life? Then this will also determine if we can walk with the same purpose and direction.
This idea of agreement is not a holier than thou idea but a simple practical truth. If people have the same goals and purpose, then they can strive together for a common cause with a common guide that will not lead in a confusing or contradictory manner. We need the same set of guidelines if there is to be a unity of spirit. If you are following the Lord and I am following the Lord, then we can be assured that the Lord will not contradict himself as he leads us. We will be fitly framed together (Ephesians 2:2) and strive together cohesively and in agreement. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1) Consider this truth when choosing your path and companions on that path.
