What Does The Bible Mean To You?

Nehemiah 8:1-3

[1] And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel. [2] And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. [3] And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

Have you ever really stopped and truly pondered on these verses? In verse 1 we see the people desiring to hear the “book of the law.” Then we see in verse 3 Ezra read all morning, and the people were attentive to the reading!! These people desired and listened to all they could get someone to read to them. Yet we have the entire copy of the Word and of preacher reads more than a few verses we begin to tune him out.

This causes me to wonder today; What does the Bible mean to you? Do you desire it the same way they did here? Is it the place you go for direction in your life? Is it something you just skim daily to be able to say you read it? We live in a day and age where we can get the Bible on our phones, and literally have it with us anywhere! However, do we take it out and use it the way we should? God’s Word has been preserved through time for us, and should be something that means the world to us. Unfortunately I’m afraid too often we look at it as just another book.

If the Word of God was to disappear tomorrow: How much of it is hid in your heart, and how much would you miss it? What does it truly mean to you?

God bless you today!
