Why?
Psalm 23:1-6 [1] The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. [3] He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. [4] Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. [5] Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. [6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
The 23rd Psalm is one that we’ve all heard multiple messages from. Most of us could probably recite it from memory. Today I want to use it to ask you a few questions.
—Why are you counting sheep? When your mind is running 100 mph at night and you can’t go to sleep, why are you counting sheep instead of talking to the Shepherd?
—Why are you wanting? We know God will meet our needs and even give us those desires of our heart. Are those desires lined up with His will for our lives? If you wasn’t in Sunday School this past Sunday I challenge you to go back and listen to Bro. Kidman talk about how God takes care of those wants when we get them lined up with what He wants for our lives. —Why are you worried? Look at verses 2-4. Green pastures, still waters, if we’d let Him lead then we’d remember He’s in control and whatever comes our way He’s got it under control and will comfort us. —Why are you looking over your shoulder? If you’ve repented and given your life to Christ, then stop letting your past keep you from moving forward with God. If you’re in Christ then it’s His goodness and mercy following you! He’s got your back, sides, and front!! Is He your shepherd today? If not He can be. If yes, then let Him lead!
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
