Aug. 29 Devotion: Favorite Verses

Favorite Verses

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

I’m sure we all know people who have tons of movie lines memorized. Others may have just random quotes or sayings memorized. They could be funny lines, inspirational, or serious ones. They will typically bring them up in conversation at appropriate times in order to make a point or garner a laugh out of someone. What about favorite verses? Not just do you have some, but how many can you say by heart? I’m sure a lot of people would say John 3:16. There is nothing wrong with that and it’s a wonderful verse that exemplifies the love of God. However, what others do you have? Just me personally if I’m struggling I can always meditate on this verse: Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I’m going through a storm I know I can depend on Him to get me through and draw on His peace: Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. If I have others that are going through a tough time I try to tell them that God is in control, and nothing that comes in their life catches God by surprise and that they can get through it. Whatever we face someone else has as well and God got them through so He can us as well. 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

I’m thankful for Scriptures that I can study, meditate on, and hide in my heart that can be a help to me as well as others at the appropriate times. Do you have Scripture hid away that you can call upon when needed?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
