Aug 4 Devotion: Having “I” Disease!

Luke 18:10-14- Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

In this passage Jesus contrasts one who is prideful with one who is humble. Those full of pride are quick to place attention on themselves and their accomplishments often using the word…”I”.

-Blinded!

*those having “I” disease…

  1. Look down on others!

  2. Lobby for God’s approval!

  3. Look for applause!

  4. Love the pre-eminence!

III John -v. 9- I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

  1. are Loaded up for a fall!

The cure for “I” disease is found in the sufficiency of Christ and His shed blood! No wonder Paul said: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” –Gal. 2:20

May we truly have a “not I, but Christ” mentality!
