Aug 6 Devotion: What Are We Hearing?

What Are We Hearing?

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord :

I listen to a lot of podcasts at work due to the fact that I spend 95% of my time working alone. This past week I’ve heard 3 separate occasions where someone being interviewed is asked a question. They begin their answer, get around 30-45 seconds into their story, only to have the interviewer interrupt to ask a question about a detail in that story. Problem is that answer was given in the first 10 seconds of the answer. They either was not paying attention or they were so focused on something they wanted to hear they let that part go in one ear and out the other. How often do we truly hear what is preached? How much of the message goes in one ear and out the other? How much do we take to heart? We find it easy to remember a catchy poem, a funny joke, we might even remember a title of the message. When it comes down to the heart of the message, what do take home with us? When God sends a message through his man it’s going to be for our benefit in some way. Whether it’s needed now or in the future it’s going to serve a purpose in our lives. However, I’m afraid too often we don’t handle things well due to the fact that we’ve not heard what God has for us. Taking away the title, catchy jokes, or good poems, what can you remember about the messages we’ve heard this week? What about last week during camp meeting? What messages did you truly hear and take to heart?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
