Compassion, Not Compromise
1 Corinthians 9:22-23
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. [23] And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
If you’re a sports fan you’ve probably heard this phrase: They tend to play to the level of their competition. You’ll see a team that you expect to blow out a lesser opponent have a much closer game than they should. It can also go the other way. The big underdog comes in and plays inspired to try to get the upset. It all comes down to going to another level for that underdog. Do we ever take it to another level when trying to reach others for Christ? When you go to share the Gospel with someone do you ever consider much about that person? Do you try to approach them on their level? Do you try to not sound like a know it all, or make sure you’re not talking down to them? People all are dealing with a lot of different situations that we aren’t always aware of. We aren’t going to get anywhere with people if we are making them feel more like they are being attacked more than we are just trying to share Jesus with them. However, while we should approach people differently under no circumstances should we compromise our beliefs or the Gospel. Getting them to feel more comfortable does not mean we water anything down nor dabble in sin to help them. As Paul says in verse 23 we are to do it all for the Gospels sake so we should not waver on that! We need to be able to understand each person individually and allow God to lead us on the best approach to take with them to share the Gospel with them.
Do you find yourself taking the same approach with everyone or are you sensitive to the fact that each situation is different and slow God to lead you?
God bless you today!
