Dec. 1 Devotion: The Love of Money

The Love of Money

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Most of you that know me know how much I enjoy the game of golf. Outside of playing it I also truly enjoy watching it. One of the things that used to be enjoyable was the fact that a lot of the greed that had infiltrated other sports really hadn’t reared its ugly head in golf. That all changed about 18 months or so ago as a new league started all out of greed. Players thinking they weren’t getting a big enough piece of the pie so to speak. It has left a fractured golf world where no longer are all the best players playing in the same league anymore. All caused by the love of money. Money alone is not evil. That’s not what Scripture says! However, when we begin to love money more than God it’s a problem. I’m afraid what we’ve done is we’ve made it too easy to just explain it away so to speak. We will act like we just need the money as we took extra OT. How many times have you seen someone take a new job because it meant more money, regardless of the affect it might have on their relationship with Christ. It might pull them out of church more or take up more of their time. None of that matters because all they see is more money. Under no circumstances am I suggesting to be irresponsible when it comes to money. It does seem to consume some people though. Anything that might be placed before them the first question is money: What’s this going to cost me? How much money is this going to get me? Where is this going to put me 5, 10, 15 years down the road. When we are more worried about money than what God would want then we have a problem. We all like to have money. It allows us to do the things we enjoy to do. Which do you love more though? Which gets more of your attention: Money or the Lord?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
