Dec. 20 Devotion: Why Can’t We Hear The Hiss?

Why Can’t We Hear The Hiss?

Genesis 3:1-6 [1] Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? [2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. [4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: [5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. [6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

We all know what has taken place here. You will hear people blame Eve. You can find people blame Adam. It happened, so regardless who we think is at fault, what can we learn from it. You hear the question often asked: Where was Adam? When the serpent approaches Eve, why didn’t Adam notice? Why wasn’t he where he needed to be to keep the serpent out and away from Eve? What about in our own lives? Why does it seem the devil gets into our lives and can cause havoc. I’m not talking about things absolutely egregious. Too often it starts small. We can’t hear the hiss cause too often we :

Insult it- I’m too good to do that. I’d never allow myself to get wrapped up in that. Really? Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Ignore it-acting like we are where we need to be isn’t forwarding the cause of Christ in our lives. We can act like the devil isn’t there but he is desiring to trip us up. Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

Instigate it-I’ve never seen a young kid say they want to grow up to be a drug addict or an alcoholic. We will dabble in “little” sin likes it no big deal. Unfortunately, it often will lead us down roads we never intended to go. It really is like we just dare the devil at times to see if he can trip us up.

Keep watch! Don’t allow the serpent to slowly make his way into your life and destroy it! Always be aware of him!

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
