Dec. 22 Devotion: Into The Storm

Into The Storm

Luke 8:23-25 KJV But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. [24] And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. [25] And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

If you was out on the water and you seen a storm coming what would you do? I believe all of us would turn to get away from it and try to even get out of the water. Our natural instincts is to try to get away from a storm. However, did you know bison will turn and go into a storm. They know facing a storm will get them out of the storm quicker. What would happen if we faced our storms of life the same way? I’m sure you might think that just sounds crazy. Why would I want to face my storm. I’d much rather just fight my way out. Therin lies our problem. We spend too much time trying to fight our way out. I can’t help but think of what the disciples possibly tried here before going to get the Lord. What all do you try before going to the Lord when a storm finds its way into your life? Do you try to solve any issues on your own? Do you try to figure out the reason for the storm? Do you fall apart and panic like the disciples did here? Jesus told them in verse 22 they were going to the other side. He can’t lie so they were going to the other side, yet they thought they were about to perish. He’s told us He will never leave nor forsake us. Why then do we have a tendency to fall apart like the disciples did? What if instead we went to the Lord and truly just turned it over to Him? What if were to tell the Lord: Lord, I’m not sure what this storm is for, but I’m just going to get behind you as you lead us through it. That might sound hard, but I believe it would be a lot easier than us trying to fight our way through it alone! Maybe you’re in a storm now. Are you facing it with Him or trying to get through it on your own? Perhaps you’ll be facing one soon. Don’t lose sight of the fact that He’s there for you! Face it and get through it by letting the Lord lead the way! That’s the best way to find that peace that passeth all understanding!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
