Dec. 23 Devotion: Don’t Get Cold

Don’t Get Cold

John 18:18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

If forecast’s are correct by the time you wake up this morning it will be below zero. It will be one of the coldest days I can remember in a long time. Winter just started so it’s that time of year that it’s just going to be cold. Unfortunately, that can spill over into our everyday lives and even our Christian lives. When it’s cold it’s easier to stay in and skip church it seems. Those cold and blustery days it’s easier to just stay in bed and watch some movies and not spend time in the Word. It’s easy to let the cold and dreariness this time of year to affect our attitude and our desire to want to do anything. The farther we get away from God we have no idea what we are capable of and how quickly we may walk away from the Lord. Think of our text verse. We know the story. Peter had told Jesus he would go with him to death. The Lord tells him that he will deny him 3 times that night. As Peter is warming himself by the fire we see him deny Christ those 3 times. Don’t allow the weather and cold to drag you away from the Savior. Don’t allow the cold to get you down and depressed. Keep your eyes on Him and all that He has done! Don’t allow that cold outside to penetrate to your heart and turn cold on God!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
