Dec. 3 Devotion: What If It’s Today?

What If It’s Today?

John 14:1-3 [1] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

A very familiar portion of Scripture. This is scripture that I believe should bring joy to any Christian’s heart. Tells us that we know we have something to look forward to. The return of Christ! We all talk about it. We will tell others to look forward to it. We say we believe it could happen at any point in time. What if it was to happen today? Are you living your life like it could happen today? Think for a second about your day yesterday. He could have returned yesterday. If he had of at some point would he have caught you in someplace that you shouldn’t have been? Would he have caught you doing something you shouldn’t have been doing? If someone was to call you and tell you they were coming over most of us would do everything we could to make sure our house was in order before they got there. If we didn’t know the exact time then we’d make sure we were prepared all day. Do we take that same preparedness to our lives when it comes to the return of Christ. He could come today, but are you ready for Him? Is your life where it needs to be if He was to show up at the next moment? Have we prayed for our lost loved ones the way we should? Have we shared Christ with those we know are lost the way we should? How burdened are we for the lost? We seem to believe that He could come anytime. We just seem to never believe that sometime is today. Live your life like He’s coming today. Live each day like it could be that day. It should excite us and we should be prepared because today could be the day!

God bless you! Bro. Josh Richardson
