Feb 25 Devotion: Joy Unspeakable

Joy Unspeakable

Psalm 35:9And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord : it shall rejoice in his salvation

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

Think on some of the things in your life that have made, or make you happy. Maybe it’s your favorite team winning, a good sale at the mall, your kids succeeding, or maybe a big bowl of ice cream. Certainly there are many more things that can lead to us being happy. However, each one of these can be fleeting. They come for a moment, and then just as quickly can go away.

Joy is something completely different. There are many verses in scripture that contain the word joy. I want us to see here in Psalm 35:9 is that it talks about “my soul.” Joy is something that is felt deep down. Joy is not something that is fleeting like happiness, but it can be lost.

Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

David had lost his joy. He had gotten to a point in his life where he had lost that relationship he once had with God.

One of the ladies in jail on Sunday came during invitation and asked for prayer. She said she wanted to rededicate her life and that she wanted her joy back. Do you still have the same joy you did when you got saved? If so, then praise God! If not, then why not? What have you allowed to steal your joy? Ask God to restore it! Our joy is what should shine forth, and allow a lost and dying world to see how there is something different inside us. It should be our desire to have the “joy unspeakable and full of glory.”

God bless you today!
