Success
Luke 12:16-21 [16] And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: [17] And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? [18] And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. [19] And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. [20] But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? [21] So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
As the invasion of Ukraine began this week you started to hear about how far the stock market initially dropped. This would affect so many people in their retirement if it does drop again and stay down for any length of time. We do not know when Jesus will return so there is nothing wrong with preparing for the future. However, for some, it’s a big retirement, a big bank account, or more stuff that they use to define success. Others will also look at titles or being labeled a “professional” at something as being successful. While all those things can mean success and there is nothing wrong with them they are not the measure of ultimate success. Based on Scripture we know that everything in this world will one day burn up. We should measure our ultimate success in our relationship with Christ. We’d ultimately want to hear well done thy good and faithful servant. Are we striving to live the type of successful life we need to now in order to hear that statement later? How successful are you in sharing the Gospel? We don’t get people saved or save people so success shouldn’t be measured in the numbers, but how often do we tell others about Christ. How successful are you in doing God’s will for your life? God has specific things for each of us to do. Have you sought His will? How are you following that plan He has for your life? How successful are you at just living a Christian life? When people look at us do they see the world or something different? When was last time or have you ever had someone ask if you’re a Christian? Are you measuring your success by worldly treasures or heavenly treasures?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
