Feb. 28 Devotion: Have Confidence In The Lord

Have Confidence In The Lord

Jeremiah 1:5-9 [5] Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. [6] Then said I, Ah, Lord God ! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. [7] But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. [8] Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. [9] Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

I believe there is a difference between self confidence and cockiness. We can be self confident and believe we are the best at a certain job or task. However, I also think in that self confidence you can see areas that you can still improve. I believe cockiness is just believing you are the best, no one can improve on what you do, and you are going to rub peoples face in it so to speak. When you think of sports stars that self confidence comes from the fact they know they’ve put in the work to be the best at their profession. In our text we find the account of the call God had placed on the life of Jeremiah. We know God tells Jeremiah in verse 5 that he was ordained in the womb. We seeJeremiah use the excuse that he’s just a child in verse 6. We know Jeremiah went on to do what God had him to do for years, yet we can’t find recorded of a single person who turned to God. We know Jeremiah had hardships and struggled at times. However, I believe we can find 2 things here that not only got Jeremiah through, but can also help us. God tells Jeremiah in verse 8 that: “ I am with thee to deliver thee.” Then in verse 9: “ Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. If we put in the time in prayer and personal time with God, and if we put time into studying the Scriptures, then when God leads us to do something for Him we can have confidence in Him that He will help us get through it. Whether God has called you to pastor a church, be a missionary, teach a class, or just go across the street to share the Gospel. God is not going to lead us somewhere that He can’t keep us or help us to get through it. When doing something that God has led us to do we can have confidence in Him that He is there with us. We might face hardship, He is still there. We could deal with doubt, but it’s not doubt from God. We might even face people who want nothing to do with Christ. See again verse 8. God will deliver you. You might be struggling with a decision today. Something God wants you to do, but you just lack the confidence in yourself. Have the confidence in God that if it be His will to do it then He will get you through it.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
