Feb 8 Devotion: Getting Over The Guilt

Getting Over The Guilt

Psalm 32:5-7 [5] I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord ; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. [6] For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. [7] Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

David starts in vs 5 about how he had acknowledged his sin to God. When Nathan called him out David felt guilty. Yet, we know that if we confess our sins and ask forgiveness then God will forgive us. We understand that we can’t hide our sin from God. Why then don’t we do what David does here in vs 7. Make God our hiding spot! It’s not the will of God for us to dwell on past sins. We beat ourselves up with guilt and allow it to keep us from doing what God would have us to do. Unfortunately, there may be those around us that want to bring our past up. While we can’t control their actions, we can control where we turn during those times. If we’d allow God to be our hiding place it can compass us with the songs of deliverance that David talks about. We can have things in our past that we aren’t proud of, but we can’t let us live a present and future life that the Lord isn’t proud of. If you’ve asked for forgiveness, then God has forgiven you and forgot about them. You then need to be consumed by God and get past those things. It does us no good to sit around and feel guilty for things that are already done. I used to tell then in jail all the time. Don’t let your past hinder your future!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
