Jan. 1 Devotion: A Renewal

A Renewal

Ephesians 4:22-24

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; [23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; [24] And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

As we hit the new year it’s the day so many will start that diet, go to the gym, start a Bible reading plan, be a “better me”, etc. A new year always seems to bring that to some that they are going to start something new. Unfortunately, most of those things are never followed through. Over time we fall back into old habits or just don’t find the time for those new things that we try to start. What if instead of starting something new we just had a renewal or sorts. We know revival is for the church. You can’t revive something that was never alive. What if Gods people just renewed some things this year. Renewed is an instance of resuming an activity or state after an interruption.

What are the things that you need to resume? Could you use a renewal in your zeal for the Word? Do you study or even just read the Bible with the same desire you once had? What about a renewed fire for worship? Do you show up as excited for church as you once did? What if we had a renewed spirit of mind as it mentions in our text? This world can get us bogged down and depressed. What could it do to our attitude if we solely focused on Him instead of the things outside of our control? Instead of looking to start something new today let’s just have a renewed focus on the Lord!

God bless you today!
