Jan. 12 Devotion: Maps

Maps

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Depending on your age you will remember traveling growing up in different ways. You might’ve used those handheld maps and maybe highlighted a route. While I remember those maps I don’t remember using them much. I do remember plugging my locations in to Mapquest and then printing those out and using those. Then you get to where we mostly are today. Most either use some form of map feature either on their phone or the navigation system on their vehicle. Regardless of which one you use or used the one thing we steer away from is just ignoring what the map says and following our own way.

If we wouldn’t do it traveling somewhere, why do we do it with our own life? Why don’t we get in Scripture and see where God would have us go? We’ve been to Myrtle Beach several times. I still would not just hop in my car and head that direction and hope that I remembered each turn. Why do we find so many doing that very thing in life? How many just get up everyday like there is no purpose in their life? How many get up and just go through the motions each day and don’t give a thought to what God has for them? Have you ever made an important life decision just because it “felt” like the right thing to do? There was no seeking God, no time in Scripture for that decision. It just felt good so you went with it. We have the best book of instruction there has ever been yet, too often it’s an afterthought when it comes to directing our lives. Instead people just go their own way. We wouldn’t think about going someplace new without having directions on how to get there. We have no idea what our future days have in store for us so why not seek His direction since He is the one that does know what the future holds!

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God bless you today!
