Jan. 31 Devotion: Your Choice Matters

Your Choice Matters

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation 20:10,14-15 [10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. [14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

I recently had the opportunity to walk around the city of New Orleans a little bit. While walking around I was asked on 3 separate occasions if I’d be interested in signing petition to protect voting rights. Part of me really wanted to stop and ask these young people if they truly understood what they were doing. There is nothing that prevents someone from voting if they desire to make a vote in an election. When people choose not to cast their vote it’s usually because they don’t feel as if there’s a point. They don’t think their vote really matters. However, there is one choice we make in our lives that is the deciding vote so to speak. We see in 2 Peter that the Lord desires us to repent and follow Him. However, we also know that there is a devil that wants to deceive people into thinking that they don’t need to make the choice to follow Christ. He might tell them they have plenty of time, or he might convince them that hell isn’t going to be that bad. There are multiple ways the devil will try to deceive people because his desire is to see them spend eternity with him in the lake of fire. The Lord has made a way for us to spend eternity with Him in heaven, and the devil wants to deceive people to spend eternity with him in hell, that then means the choice is ours in where we will spend eternity. We have the deciding vote so to speak in where we will spend life eternal. You’ll not find a more important decision in your life that you can make. If you are reading this and have not trusted Christ then I encourage you to do that today.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you’re reading this and you’ve made that decision to trust Christ then next time you share the Gospel with someone stress to them the importance of the choice they are making. If they choose not to trust in Christ they aren’t choosing to not go to church. They aren’t choosing to not read the Bible. They are choosing to spend eternity in the lake of fire. There will be no recount, no redo, no recall. If we choose not to trust in Christ it will have eternal consequences.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
