July 1 Devotion: Taking Time To See

Taking Time To See

Luke 17:15-19 [15] And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, [16] And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. [17] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? [18] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. [19] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

There are a lot of messages I’ve heard preached from these verses. These 10 men are strictly known by the disease they had. The 10 lepers. They knew who Jesus was because if you look back at verse 13 you see that they lifted up their voices and called Jesus by name. They knew who He was, yet we only find the one that turned back. We could debate reasons on why the other 9 didn’t turn back, but I want to look at the one that did. It tells us in verse 15 that when he saw that he was healed he turned back and glorified God! He took the time to realize that he had been cleansed. He took the time to be present in the situation. Just in being aware he was thankful for what Jesus had done for Him. We have a tendency to just get busy. Life throws so much at us day to day that a lot of times it can seem overwhelming. It would do us good to purposely stop, take time to look around us, and be thankful for all Jesus has done for us. He’s blessed us with material things like our homes and vehicles. He’s blessed us with jobs. He’s blessed us with a wonderful church and wonderful friendships created in our church. We still live in the greatest country on earth. We have the ability to open the Word of God anywhere we may be to read it to help us! We have so much to be thankful for! The leper here was cleansed, and then after being thankful Jesus tells him his faith had made him whole in verse 19. I’m not saying being thankful will lead to greater blessings, but if we take the time to look around and be thankful for all He has blessed us with it should get us out of the doldrums. It should cause us to show up ready to worship Him for all He has done! Take time today just to see all that God has blessed us with and be thankful for it all.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
