July 12 Devotion: Possessions

Possessions

Mark 10:21-22 [21] Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. [22] And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

This man walked away due to the fact his possessions had his heart. He was looking at the fact that he had so much! He just didn’t realize where all those came from. I believe God has no problem with us having things, as long as those things don’t have us. What are some of your possessions that you hold dear today? I’m not necessarily talking about physical things. What are things you hold dear to your heart? For me I’d have to say:

Family- I’ve been blessed beyond my wildest dreams with such a wonderful family. A wife that love and supports me and 2 wonderful daughters. I don’t know where I’d be without any of them.

Freedom- I’m so thankful to still live in a country that I have the freedoms that I do. Especially the freedom to be able to worship our Lord!

Friendships- I’m beyond blessed with the friends that I have. I couldn’t imagine my life without some of the people in my life.

Most of all my Father in heaven: I could spend the rest of today writing what God means to me. His long-suffering, His love, His grace, His salvation he provided and I could keep going. The peace and joy God provides goes far beyond anything this world has to offer. When was the last time you told your friends or family how much they mean to you. When was last time you didn’t ask for anything, but instead just told God how much he means to you?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
