July 12 Devotion: Standing, Regardless of What Crowd Does

Standing, Regardless Of What Crowd Does

Daniel 3:10-12

Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image: [11] And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. [12] There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

I heard something this week about a certain political party softening their stance on abortion. It seems as if we’ve reached a point in society where there is so much evil, so much nonsense going on that just being right isn’t going to get you votes. There are too many that are so power hungry that they will do whatever it takes to get votes. They will bow down to whoever may be the loudest. When we are willing to make a stand it has been proven that it works. There are multiple companies that have gone down the “woke” road the last few years. Some may never change back. However, there are some that began to backpedal after outside pressure. The issue is that pressure seems to wane after a brief time. Some might make a stand at first and then for whatever reason just begin to back off.

Think about all that when you look at our text today. These three boys started off making a stand when everyone else was bowing to the golden image. As everyone folded under pressure they just stood. Even after the enemy notifies the king they kept their composure. They didn’t accuse, they didn’t lose their cool, they didn’t waver. As the king became furious they continued to stand for what was right. They didn’t even try to ridicule the king about how quickly he seemed to have forgotten about the God they served. (See chapter 2 verses 46-47). Then as they are about to be thrown into the fire they just continue to trust God.

I want to encourage you today to just trust God. You might be discouraged when looking at our country. Let me remind you God still knows where we are. You might be facing tremendous medical, financial, or personal hardships today. Just trust God. He not only knows where you are He also knows the way out. Remember as Bro. Adrian has said before at church: “God can see around the corner.” He knows what’s coming, so just trust Him. Regardless of what the crowd does, just continue to stand for what’s right! It’s possible you could get ridiculed, it’s possible you could face some kind of persecution, but you will never go wrong by standing for what’s right!

God bless you today!

Bro. Josh Richardson
