July 19 Devotion: Relinquish Control

Relinquish Control

James 4:13-14 [13] Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: [14] Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Where do you see yourself a year from now? What about 10? There is nothing wrong with having goals in life. There’s nothing wrong with making plans. Do your goals include God? What if God was to change your plans? Too many times in our lives we like to be IN control, and HAVE control over everything around us. We expect to know everything going on around us. It’s this type of desire for control that can get in the way of God in our lives. We want control, because we think that if we have control then we know the outcome. We tend to think that if we plan everything out, and follow our own plan, then we know what the outcome will be. What if God says to do something different? We know where we need to be in a year, in five, in ten. What happens when God shows up and tells you to move. What if He tells you to switch jobs? If you don’t see how it will help you accomplish your goals will you do it? It doesn’t have to be something major like that. What if God said to talk to that person in your life that you really don’t get along with? No chance! We will offer up how that person has wronged us, or don’t share the same views as us. Therefore, we will just stay away from them. All because we don’t know what may happen in that situation. Don’t misinterpret what’s been said. As I mentioned at the beginning, there is nothing wrong with making plans, or having goals. However, if we are not allowing ourselves to follow God’s plan, or our goals don’t include growing closer to God, then we need to relinquish some of that control and just allow God to do a work! God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
