July 19 Devotion: Small and Large

Small and Large

1 Corinthians 15:55-58

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? [56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [58] Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

These verses are most certainly something a Christian can shout about! The death, burial and resurrection of our Savior gives us victory over death! Thanks be unto God for the blessed hope of spending eternity with Him in heaven!

What about our victories here on earth? There are a lot of days we can downright feel defeated. Days when we might wish we could run away so to speak. Unfortunately, sometimes those days can turn into weeks, into months and so on. We don’t feel very victorious in those times. Victory simply means conquest. Also means the defeat of an enemy in battle. There are many things we might look at as “battles.” It doesn’t always have to be something on a huge scale. We know by our text we have victory over death. This is a great victory the Lord has given us. What about the small victories He has led you through. You might get to the end of one of those bad days that you felt like you wanted to give up, but you didn’t. Celebrate the fact that God got you through. Be honest with yourself. We’ve all had those days where we wanted to smack that certain someone, but you didn’t. Celebrate the grace God gave you to show them. It could even be something simple you accomplished at home or on the job that you didn’t think you could ever do. Celebrate that small victory. This world will do its best to beat you and keep you down. Celebrate even the smallest of victories you may have and keep an eye on the future at the greatest victory of all that God will provide one day!

God bless you today!
