July 21 Devotion: Strange Fire

Lev. 10:1-2-

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

The sons of Aaron stepped out of place and sought to perform service unto the Lord on their terms. This was met with grave consequences! I’m convinced that we don’t encounter true revival today because too many Christians strive to serve God by means other than what He has commanded; thus offering “strange fire”.

Strange Fire (vainglory)

*is…

-Self imposed (deliberate; defiant)

-Self important (proud; egotistical)

-Self indulgent (greedy; self glory)

**it…

1. Quenches the Holy Spirit! (smothers; douses out)

2. Questions the Authority of God! (out of order; confusion)

3. Quells the moving of God! (stops; subdues)

4. Quiets the voice of God! (with human reasoning)

5. Qualms the House of God! (with a vexing spirit)

6. Causes Quarrels in the children of God! (disputes and divisions)

***God help us to be filled with Holy Ghost Fire and not offer strange fire unto The Lord!
