Limiting God
2 Kings 4:6
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
The woman here had come to Elisha because her husband had died and the creditors were going to take her two sons to work and pay off her debt. You’ll see Elisha asks her what she has in her house and she says just a pot of oil. Elisha then gives her instructions and she goes and gathers many other vessels to pour oil into. That brings us to our text verse. She has now filled all those vessels and her pot of oil is still there.
It would’ve been very easy for her to have looked for a different way. Think of all the excuses she could’ve used:
It’s just a pot of oil so God can’t really use that.
He really wants me to go gather vessels. Can’t God just fix it?!
Oh the excuses many of us would offer up.
She placed no limit on what God could use nor how he would show up for her. How often do we limit God? You might think you have little to offer. What could God do with that little though? Do you limit Him in desired results? How often do you pray for God to just show up and do something miraculous? We often ask for the small thing when God could truly show up and do something we’ve never seen. Think about this verse:
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
So if He can still go above what we can ask or think why do we limit Him in our asking or thinking?
God bless you today!
