By Him All Things Consist
Colossians 1:15-20
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: [16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: [17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. [19] For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; [20] And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
The word consist means to stand together, to be in a fixed state our very existence. It is based on the fact that Jesus is holding everything together. People make the statement that the world is falling apart, but that can never happen as long as Jesus is in charge of all things. Everything that is seen and unseen has been created by the Lord Jesus. He is in charge of all the powers that be. Jesus is responsible for them being in the position they're in. He created all things. It didn't evolve like all the modern teachers tell us. He is the head of the church. He is in charge of the church. The church is the Lords. It doesn't belong to mankind. We find in our text that everything is for Jesus and He is keeping it all together.
