July 9 Devotion: Selling Out Or Making A Stand

Selling Out Or Making A Stand

Matthew 26:14-16 [14] Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, [15] And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. [16] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

We all know the story here how Judas sells out Jesus. We ask all sorts of questions on how could he do such a thing to the Lord whom he walked with daily. However, how quick are we to sell out the Lord or not make a stand to the world defend Him? If I was to start talking about or degrading your spouse there’s a good chance one of three things will happen. You’ll walk away, tell me to shut up, or pop me in the mouth. Same goes if I was to start ridiculing your kids if you have any or close family members. We just would not tolerate those things. Why then do we tolerate when the world mocks God or disparages His Word? Sometimes we don’t have to be rude or condescending to get a point across. We could just say something to spur a conversation about the Lord. There was a video that went around on social media a couple years ago of Tim Tebow hitting a golf ball. After he smashes the ball a gentleman behind him says, “Jesus!.” This wasn’t being said in any type of way to glorify God, but Tebow followed that up with, “loves you.” Put yourself in a similar situation. Someone uses Gods name with ill intent. What if instead of just letting it go we responded with: “Let’s have a talk about God since you brought Him up.” We could even just begin to tell about what Jesus has done in our lives. How often do we defend His Word? Someone talks about something be ok to do, are we able to quote Scripture on how God says it’s wrong? There are many instances where we are given the opportunity to stand up for our Lord. Too often we just stand idly by and let the world say what they want. If we won’t stand up for the Lord then who is?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
