June 16 Devotion: Gratitude

Gratitude

Luke 8:38-39 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, [39] Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

There are a lot of terms we might use to describe the man at the beginning of this story. Crazy would probably be close to the top of the list. Someone who lived in the tombs I think we would classify as crazy. However, we know Jesus showed up, cast out the many devils and changed this man’s life. Changed his life so much it struck fear in those that came and found him now clothed and in his right mind. We then get to the this part of the story and we find this man wanting to go with Jesus as he is departing. Jesus instructs him to go home and tell others what Jesus had done for him. This man had a spirit of gratitude now and was willling to follow Jesus wherever He was headed, and also do whatever Jesus asked of him. Therefore, he went home the Bible says and published it through the whole city how Jesus had helped him and changed his life. You might not have been possessed by many devils, but I’d still venture that Jesus changed your life. Do you have that same spirit of gratitude for what Jesus has done in your life? Are you thankful enough to follow Him wherever He leads you? Are you thankful enough to just tell others how He changed your life? It would help us get our mind off a lot of the nonsense around us and focus more on Him if we would have a spirit of gratitude. Just being thankful for all He’s blessed us with can certainly change our outlook on things!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
