Matthew 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ was a strange truth to those that lived in the days after he had risen, and it remains a foreign concept to most of the world even today. How could it be? Is it real? Is it even possible? The truth is the resurrection is the proof of Christ’s victory. After all the suffering, ridicule, mocking, and beating; after the nails, the crown of thorns, the spear in his side, and (the most difficult) having the sin of us all placed upon him so he could pay for them with his own blood; after his death and burial, there was a resurrection. He arose triumphant over every obstacle that seemed to dictate sure defeat. Because he lives, we can live. We do not worship a dead Savior or even one that is still hanging on a cross. We worship a risen Savior who is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
Everything about true Christianity is about life, eternal life. Dead religion is a depressing concept, but the resurrection of Christ is a vibrant, exciting truth that declares the only hope there is to the world. The songwriter got it right when he said, “Up from the grave he arose; with a mighty triumph o'er his foes; he arose a victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever, with his saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!” (Robert Lowry)
Our faith should not be in a dead religion but in a risen Savior who loves us and gave himself for us. He defeated every foe and sits in victory over death, hell, and the grave. He died once never to die again and because he is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25) he is our hope. In Christ we have resurrected life. In Christ we have the steadfast and sure hope of life. In Christ we have eternal life. Jesus said, “because I live, ye shall live also.” (John 14:19) Hallelujah, what a Savior.
