Mar. 20 Devotion: Word Gets Around

Word Gets Around

Job 2:11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

No cellphones. No tv. No social media, etc. When you think of all the ways news travels now there was none of that at the times of Jobs troubles. Yet, we see here in our text that Jobs friends still heard what was going on in his life. Fast forward to now and we know how quickly news can travel. Something can happen to you and before you can even tell someone you’ll have people calling you and asking how you are. Then when it comes to rumors those seem to spread like wildfire. It then goes without saying that people are watching our every move. Unfortunately, that can mean they are setting around and just watching for us to mess up so they can talk about us. We can’t do anything about those people. We are all human so if they are looking for faults then they will no doubt find some. However, there are also people watching our lives to see something different than what this world is offering. What are we showing them? Do we show them a love for Christ over worldly things? Matthew 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: [20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Do we show them a faith unchanging? Psalm 119:89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Do we show them the love of Christ? 1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Mark 12:30-31 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. [31] And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

News travels fast! Let’s show them something that’s worth traveling!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
