Mar 21 Devotion: An Expected End

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Some people see God as some hateful, vengeful tyrant that hovers over us waiting for us to mess up so he can “lower the boom” so to speak. Others see him as some grand-fatherly old man that really doesn’t do anything. The truth is, God is love and he only wants the best for us, and he is certainly capable of seeing his desire through to fruition. He is unchanging and therefore he is the same today in power and ability as he has ever been.

He tells us in this verse that he thinks about us and has a specific desire for us. He wants us to have peace. This is a rest from the friction and chaos that the world bombards us with every day. He wants us to have a real relationship with him and be over-comers in this sin cursed world in which we live. He is the only one that can bring such a desire as this to pass.

Notice the last part of the verse. “An expected end” is one that is anticipated and (in the context) one that is full of hope. When we face the craziness of this world day after day, it can become very discouraging. But God says, I have “an expected end” for you. It is going to turn out okay. Don’t fret. I’ve got this and you will see that in the end you will be blessed, and God will be glorified. Trust him today. He knows how all of this is going to turn out and he has “an expected end” for his children.
