Mar. 22 Devotion: Representing

Representing

Acts 11:26

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

This is the time of year that so many people want to represent their schools for college basketball. People want to show their school pride as March Madness starts. There are many things in our lives that we represent from time to time. You might be on a work trip and have to represent your company at something. Think of time when the young people at our church have attended camp somewhere and they are reminded that they are representing our church.

We see it mentioned here in our text verse this is when you see the disciples called Christians first. If we are going to strive to be Christ-like and call ourselves Christians then how are we representing Christ? When people look at our lives what do we do represent best? Do we point others to Christ or point them more towards the world? Those that profess to be Christian are watched everyday. Some of those watching are just looking for you to mess up or do something they could point to and use as a “gotcha” moment. We know we aren’t perfect and will fail God daily, but how we handle those failures can also go a long way in properly representing Christ. Think about it this way. You ever had a run in with someone who was rude to you possibly? Maybe they were hateful or something like that to you. You knew they worked for a certain company so you then chose not to use that company or maybe go to that store. You allowed that person’s representation affect your decision. Don’t you then think that how you represent Christ can go a long way on getting someone to potentially come to church with you or even trust Christ as their Saviour one day?

If you are going to call yourself a Christian then don’t lose sight of who you represent!

God bless you today!
