Text- I Pet. 1:3- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
In this verse, Peter uses the formal name of the Savior: “Lord Jesus Christ”. Why is this of any significance? Because His name says it all!
What’s in a Name?
1. Lord is His Sovereign Name!
*He’s Sovereign in…
Omniscience!
I Pet. 1:2a– Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit,
His Offering!
I Pet. 1:2b– unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:
John 1:29– The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 3:16– For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Omnipotence!
Rev. 19:6– And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Jesus is His Saving Name!
Acts 4:12– Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 16:31– And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Rom. 10:13– For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
John 14:6– Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Christ is His Solidifying Name!
Note: Christ = Messiah = The Anointed One!
Heb. 6:19-20– Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
*because of the storms of life, you had better be anchored in..
Him!
the Hope He provides!
the Home He’s gone to prepare!
**so what’s in a Name?
-Abundant Life!
-a Purposeful Life!
-Eternal Life!
