Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
There are so many things that pursue our attention and they come from many different directions. Our lives are busy and extremely hectic. The verse in Colossians 3 gives us guidance for a proper perspective and a warning against going in the wrong direction. The guidance is, we need to be heavenly minded. Our attention needs to be on spiritual, eternal things. Those things carry a greater weight of importance. Too much emphasize is exercised on right here and now.
The idea of being heavenly minded reminds us of the location of our treasures.
Matthew 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The way we live now must be understood as having value beyond the present. There are temporal things that must be done, but we should live for eternity. We should live for the glory of God. We should live to honor the Lord. We should be reminded that we are here to serve as servants of the Most High God. If you are heavenly minded, you will find yourself being far more earthly good.
