May 29 Devotion: Separating Love

2 John 5 - And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.”

This commandment holds so many applications that reiterate what I do often mention in Sunday School, if we love right we will live right.

Think of what the Apostle John is commanding us, through the guidance and unction of the Holy Ghost. Love one another. He does not say love as the world defines love nor to love as YOU define love. Love has one definition: God, for God is love.

We are commanded to allow the Spirit to work out the love of God from our new creature and manifest it through our deeds in obedience to our Heavenly Father. We should aspire to be every bit as graceful, merciful, compassionate, attentive and passionate towards others as God had been to us. What’s more, we should desire to better know the love that God has towards us so that we may more surrender our will so that we can be shaped to conform more Perfectly into the image of the precious Son of God.

Have you ever stopped to consider what would happen if Christians truly loved others as Christ loved them? Saints would surrender their obsession with technology and modern devices that temporarily hold their attention and entertain. Why? Because they so love others that they understand the most profitable thing that they can do is lift them up in supplication and intercession through prayer.

If you really loved someone as God desires you to love others, would you not sacrifice the menial desires of self to invest time, works and all that is within you to see them living in the perfect will of God? If you cared as God has cared for you, would you not study the scriptures to render the most wise advice when they ask for council? If you had the compassion of Christ would you not bear your cross and then carry the burdens of others without second thought?

Truly loving one another with cause us to distance from the world and separate to God. For we understand that nothing of this Earth can help those whom we love, only an act of God in their life will suffice. So we will fast, we will yield all that is in God’s way, we will walk in the footsteps of our Savior, we will humble ourselves to the will of God. All because we know that the only way to truly make a difference is to remove ourselves from the situation and allow God to use us as a vessel of honor to deliver a small portion of his love to those that we love.

Your fellowservant in Christ,

Jordan Foster
