Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
There is a way to live your life in vain. It is by you living contrary to the word of God. Your life’s work will be vain labor without the word of God. You have no eternal purpose or goal. It is an aimless life that never finds a valuable target. It is a waste. There is no proper guidance or righteous principles without it. All we get is man’s opinion without God’s word.
It is hard to believe this if you don’t believe the Bible, but it is true, nevertheless. God’s glorious word is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. (Psalm 119:105) It gives us understanding by enlightening us to the truth. (Psalm 19:8; 119:130) It gives us the answers to life’s troubling questions and declares the wonderful gospel that there is a Savior, and his name is Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul tells us that we should be “holding forth the word of life.” This is the thought of putting it in front of our eyes to guide us and in the heart’s position of preeminence so that we might not sin against God. (Psalm 119:11) How about you? What place of prominence does the word of God have in your life? Is it an afterthought, a passing thought, a prominent thought, or no thought at all? The place of importance of God’s word in your life will tell the tale of what kind of life you are living. Consider your relationship to the Bible this morning and get in the book so the book can get in you.
