May 30 Devotion: The Importance Of Memorial

The Importance Of Memorial

Psalm 9:1-6 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. [2] I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. [3] When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. [4] For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. [5] Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. [6] O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

This Psalm starts with praise unto God. We should praise Him with our whole heart. We then see it begin to talk about the heathen and the enemy. We then see in verse 6 those cities are destroyed. They have come to such an end that even the memorial of them is gone. There are too many things that we tend to forget if we don’t set aside time to do something. How many things do we “intend” to do in a day, but then forget to do them? Memorial Day isn’t meant to be looked at as a long weekend. It’s not meant to be about cookouts and hanging with friends. This is a day set aside that we should remember those that came before us. Take time to recognize those that made the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have this day. Not only our service men and women, but those that were martyred for the faith. There are many that paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to have the Word of God today. These days are set aside for that reason. Make sure to take time today to remember those that gave of themselves for people they didn’t even know. People that paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy the freedoms we have in our country as well as the freedom we have to worship God!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
