May 5 Devotion: What’s Stopping You?

What’s Stopping You?

Acts 4:18-20 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. [19] But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. [20] For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

Peter and John had seen multiple miracles in their lives. As they went about preaching the Gospel they find themselves here facing much scrutiny. To the point that in verse 18 they are told to not teach or even speak the name of Jesus. As they give their response I think about Jeremiah talking about how he could not quit because it was like a fire shut up in his bones. Peter and John say in verse 20 that they just cannot help but to just speak upon what they had seen and heard. I wonder how many of us have ever been told to not even speak the name of Jesus. It’s possible you have, but I think a lot of times we won’t bring up the name of Jesus for other reasons. I’d be willing to guess the number one reason is simply fear. It could be fear of just interacting with someone. You might have a fear of being asked questions. We should shelve that fear by doing just what Peter and John did. Just share the things we’ve seen and heard. We’ve heard it said multiple times recently that the best thing we can do is just share our experiences. Tell them what God has done in your life. That can be the best things we can do is to just tell people of our experiences and how God has worked in your life. It’s no doubt we are living in the last days and those around us that are lost need to hear the Gospel. Start those conversations by sharing your experiences and it could open the door to share even more. We can’t let the world stop us from doing what God has instructed us to do by some kind of fear we’ve built up inside of us. I’d venture to say that facing the type of ridicule that Peter and John faced is very rare today. So what’s stopping you from talking about Jesus?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
