May 8 Devotion: Thermometer or Thermostat

Thermometer or Thermostat

Revelation 3:15-16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. [16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

We know this text written to the church at Laodicea. God talks about their works as being lukewarm. Why are they lukewarm? It’s all about their attitude the He tells then in verse 17. Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: This is a church we look at as just gone through the motions so to speak. I got to thinking about here where it talks about being hot or cold. Temperature is typically measured by 2 things. A thermostat and or a thermometer. A thermostat is used to sit the temperature in a room. It controls the environment around it. A thermometer measures the temperature. A thermometer will adjust to the environment around it. In your daily walk are you more of a thermostat or a thermometer? Do you have boundaries you set and stay within them? Do you have certain things you just refuse to partake in? Or do you adjust to the temperature of the room and allow that to change your limitations? If you’re in a crowd that loves the Lord then you show you do as well. If you’re in a crowd that’s more on fire for the world then you’ll adjust that way as well? When it comes to your environment around you do you have a greater affect on it or does it affect you and you’ll adjust accordingly?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
