Nov. 13 Devotion: What Happened To Exhorting?

What Happened to Exhorting?

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

I think we’d all agree on the importance of being in church when we are supposed to be. It is a blessing to have livestream now, but nothing replaces being there. We also know that as Bible believers we can see the day approaching! However, what happened to the exhorting it talks about? Exhorting simply means to strongly encourage someone. We live in a time that it can be easy to become discouraged. We all face difficulties and sometimes they can get to all of us and leave us feeling defeated. What has happened to Christians encouraging one another? Do you offer that encouragement face to face with someone? When was last time you encouraged someone by complimenting them on something they’ve done or even just trying to encourage them when they seem down? What about encouraging them from afar? When was last text you sent just telling someone to have a great day? You never know what a simple text could do to brighten someone’s day! When was last time you tried to encourage someone who’s fallen? It’s so easy to kick someone while they are down. Even if someone has brought something on themselves by their own decisions that don’t mean we have to pile on. I’m not saying we have to agree with their sin or decision, but we could still try to encourage them when they are down. The world will continue to pile on, they won’t need us to do the same. I’d encourage you to spend time in prayer this week and ask God to show you someone who you could exhort this week. You have no idea how far a little encouragement could go for someone.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
