Nov. 19 Devotion: Identity Crisis

Identity Crisis

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The last 18 months or so in our country have been crazy, trying, ridiculous, and I could go on and on. I think a lot of it started around 4 years ago. That’s when it seems that a lot of things started to become strictly politically motivated. A large number of people were all caught up in if they were Republican or Democrat. If they were left or right leaning. It just continued into things that are even more ridiculous. People deciding if they identify as male or female. We are what God made us regardless of what we might try to say or what pronouns we think we can choose to use. There are also people who choose to identify what they are when it comes to religion. I’m Baptist, I’m Catholic, etc. I’m not saying that is wrong. We should be proud of our Baptist heritage, and know why we say we are Baptists. However, I’d rather be identified as Christian. If you was to meet a stranger, and after talking to them for awhile what would be their first impression you give off. Would they know your political stance, would they know your favorite sports team or tv show, or would they know you were a Christian? If we want to be a light in this world we don’t need the world to know our political stance. It doesn’t matter our “religion”. What does matter is to show what a true born again believer is. It’s important for the lost to see our lives and see a difference from the rest of the world. I come across too many people that are too worried about what side of the aisle they are on instead of if they are saved or lost. That’s not what we should take pride in. Out politics or stance on things in this present world aren’t as important as showing others a true Christian example. What would your friends, family, or co-workers say first about you? Would they say that you show those around you how a true Christian is to live their life? Think of what our text verse tells us. “assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people.” As Christians, what are we teaching the people?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
