The Importance Of The Shield
Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
I’d encourage you to read the rest of Ephesians 6 this morning. Especially verses 11-17 about the whole armour of God. It discusses different parts of armour for our entire body. When it gets to the shield here in verse 16 there are a couple things I’d like to look at today. It starts off saying above all. Why above all? It shows the importance of our faith. We can carry around our Bible, be where we are supposed to be, and do everything right according to the way the world sees it. However, without our faith we have nothing. It also talks about quench all. Each other part of the armour protects certain parts. Each has it’s own use. However, a shield can be moved around anywhere. Our faith can withstand fiery darts from anywhere in this world. We overcome the world by our faith. 1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. The world can attack our Book, but we can stand on our faith. The world can deny our God, but we can still stand on our faith. The world can try to remove God from anything they want, but we can still stand on our faith. We could look at multiple other Scriptures where is was faith that changed things. It was faith that overcome all obstacles. As you begin another week take your shield of faith and know that it can protect you from anything this world throws at you.
