Nov. 29 Devotion: Easy To Complain

Easy To Complain

Exodus 16:6-7 [6] And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the Lord hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: [7] And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord ; for that he heareth your murmurings against the Lord : and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

There are many times we find in Scripture the people of Israel murmuring against the Lord or Moses and Aaron. In this instance we find them murmuring about were they led out of Egypt just to die in the wilderness. In our text verses we find Moses telling them about seeing God’s glory in the morning. If you read a few verses down you’ll find the people are blessed with manna. All these blessings and yet a chapter later we will find them again murmuring. When we get our eyes off our blessing or just focused on the wrong thing it’s easy to just find ourselves complaining. We can get in our little bubble and complain about things around us. I had the blessing of being able to get away for Thanksgiving. Gas prices averaged $.40-$.50 higher than at home. Traveling back we came across cities that still had mask mandates. We found it difficult to find a restaurant that had indoor seating in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, and not just later in the evening when some seem to close a little earlier. At times it felt like a different country we were in almost. It’s easy to allow the flesh to take over and constantly see the negativity in things. What if next time you started to complain about something you just stopped. Instead find something that you can just brag on God about. Put that focus on the positive side of things. It is a daily struggle with our flesh. The devil would want nothing more than to have you walk around miserable all the time and for others not to see your light shine for Christ. We hear it said often: things could always be worse. A vast majority of the time that is the case. Putting more of our focus on the positive things can help us have a better attitude, as well as put us in a better place mentally. You’ll come across plenty of negative this week. Don’t put your focus on that. Focus more on the positive and God’s goodness!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
